Renal histology in integrin α2 (ITGA2)-deficient mice. Compared with (a, b) wild-type controls, loss of ITGA2 caused (e-f) minor glomerular, periglomerular and tubulointerstitial damage. In situ hybridization localized elevated transforming growth factor (TGF)β expression in ITGA2 knockouts to the tubular space (g), whereas (h) upregulation of connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) seemed to be focused on the glomerular space.
